I am a hobby researcher who is interested in Moorefield history. Moorefield was named by Mrs. Benjamin Hall in 1818. The Halls moved to this area from Moorefield, Va. Now WV. When deciding on a name Mrs. Hall suggested Moorefield and the name stuck. Although never incorporated Moorefield was a thriving community.

Just trying to find out more about the George Families that live and lived in the Bath and Nicholas County areas. Visited Carlisle for a couple of days the summer of 2013, and got a list from the Cemetery in town -3 pages of Georges! Ms Howard at the Library in town was a great resource. This is a wonderful website you have put together. Two thumbs up.

Have been researching my Foster line and have stopped in Nicholas KY. I found a post on Ancestry.com regarding my ggggfather David Foster as have a father James, mother Zeppora(h) Foster. Will probated in 1826. Did not think to much about it until I found Daviids probate record in Illinois listing a payout to Zeppora for a note. I have not have much success in finding online resources until I found this site. I found it interesting reading the Foster page and will contact the mentor. Thank you for your efforts.

The soldier you have identified as Corp. Hoch, 4th Kentucky was actually promoted later in the war to Lieutenant and then to Captain. The jacket he is wearing in the picture is an officers jacket so the picture must be after promotion. I cannot make out the Rank bars on his shoulder but a LT. and Capt. would of wore the same jacket with different style bars. A Corp. would of worn a regular uniform with 2 downward stripes on each arm with the point of the stripe at the bend of the arm.
