The forum

Welcome to the forum.  Please share information and your views on the sport in the Isle of Man with others.

The forum has been operating in its present form since April 2004 and I particularly welcome comments from new contributors, whether you live on or off the Isle of Man, if you have an interest in Manx athletics.

Many people have used the forum to give thanks to the officials or their own supporters when they have enjoyed an event. Contrustive criticism is always welcome as an additional means of communication, although it is not intended to replace formal communication between clubs and other bodies and their members.

If you are unable to find information about an event on any of the Manx websites, then the forum is the best place to ask for help from other people. Whilst you can email me at  and I will do my best to point you in the right direction, the people who have the answer to your question are likely to visit the forum so it is better that you ask it here. is an independent site and I do not hold office within any of the five Manx clubs.

There are a few rules. Firstly, you should always use your real name as, apart from making people accountable for what they say, one of the objectives of the website is to make the sport friendly and appealing so please do not hide behind a nickname (anonymous entries will be deleted). Secondly, (it should go without saying) you must not insult or offend anyone. Thirdly, pesistent abuse of rules 1 and 2 will result in the forum being withdrawn.

Thanks for being sensible and I hope you continue to enjoy the forum and the sport.

Start a New Topic

With now only just over 4 weeks to go before the start of The White and Healthy Ramsey Bakery End to End , the entries are now starting to come in thick and fast. At present we have received about 140 entries which is a bit down on this time last year but the End to End committee are hopeful that we can match the record entry of last year which stood at 391.

It’s difficult to pick a winner as yet as some of the ‘big hitters’have not entered as yet. As far as I know Jock Waddington and Michael George are entering as are Vinny Lynch, Mark Hempsall, Chris Cale, Ray Pitts and Andy Green. I haven’t heard about last year’s winner and record holder Sean Hands, but if he is walking then I’m sure he won’t toe the line unless he is fit and in good shape. However, the talk is that Peter Kaneen may be having a go this year. If ‘rumour-control’ is right then I think we can expect some fireworks as I would imagine Peter would like a crack at Sean’s record. If he is fit then he is more than capable of breaking it.

Recently Peter was beaten by Michael in the Foxdale 6 but I wouldn’t read too much into that. As far as I’m aware Steve Party is not entering, though to be fair he has done a little race walking this year, so who knows. And of course let’s not forget 6 times winner Robbie Callister who may not have done much walking recently but is always fit at any time of the year.

Regarding the ladies event, then we really do have a race on our hands here. I am sure Sue Biggart will want to defend her title and preserve her record which she broke last year. But she will have to be on the top of her game as Janice Quirk will want to put last years race behind her and show us what a fine athlete she is. They always say it’s the mark of a person’s character to bounce back after a set back or any adversity and Janice has done just that. She was tremendous in the Parish Walk and broke the ladies record for that event by a huge margin. In fact I would venture to suggest that Janice is capable of breaking 7 hours or getting very close to that mark and indeed challenge for a top 3 position. I can’t see many male walkers beating her this year as she is extremely fit at the moment and her dog Breeze (training partner) has never been fitter.

Anyway either way it promises to be a great event and let’s hope we can have the same weather as last year.

Remember entries close on Sunday 6th September so there is not much time left. Remember signing on is on Friday 19th September in MANX HARRIERS CLUB HOUSE. Don’t forget we also have team event this year which should add a little more interest. Don’t delay get your entries in today!
Happy walking

Up until today, I haven't been able to access the forum for nearly two weeks at home, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to put this post on whilst I can.

Over 200 entries have been received so far which is down on the 2 previous years (2007/2008) with only a week to go before entries close.

So don't leave it until the last day to enter. Please get those entry forms completed this weekend to help the End to End committee. Entries close Sunday 6th September.
