I have had an interstem implant for over ten years and have nothing but praise for the help it has given me. Without it I would have to rely on self catherization for both bladder and colon dysfunction. The surgery itself is same day outpatient care; recovery is rapid, nothing like major surgery. Once in, you forget it's even there. I can speak only of my own experience - I would make the same decision if I had it to do over again. If you have further questions, feel free to ask. This forum was very helpful to me when I began this journey with CES; many of we earlier members benefitted greatly from the sharing and information from other members; hope you get enough responses to answer your questions.
