The description of Capt. Royall's wounds you are seeking is contained in "Across the Continent with the Fifth Cavalry," p. 295.

I am a newspaper reporter in Columbia, Mo., who compiles a daily Civil War history report for our newspaper.

Royall was from Columbia, and was unusual because he was a Regular Army officer who was not a West Point graduate. Things would get hot for the Fifth Cavalry 150 years ago this weekend.
