10th NY Cavalry/Mounted Artillery trainings

Hello folks,

The 10th NY Cavalry finally has a great venue for cavalry and mounted artillery training in the Portland area. Unless otherwise notified, or it conflicts with an event, we will have mounted training at Stoneybrook Stable, Estacada OR the second Saturday of each month, which means the next one will be August 9.

Haul-in fee for horses is $5 per horse per day to use the facilities. You may stay overnight for $10 additional per horse. McIver Park is only a few minutes drive away so at times we may drill and then go out for a trail ride.

Facilities at Stoneybrook give us the option to work indoors or outdoors so training will not be called off due to weather. They have a LARGE, non dusty indoor arena, indoor and outdoor jumps, a large drill field, and an eventing course which is in the works complete with water hazard. Stoneybrook will also work for training artillery teams because they have 40 acres of good ground suitable for driving. The only "caveat" is that at this time, we cannot shoot there, but we'll have plenty to do with drill and sabre work.

Best of all, Mr. Charles Sherman has agreed to give group riding lessons at the trainings. The per-person cost will be very reasonable. This is a great opportunity to learn from one of the best. Charles was trained by Major John Lynch, British Cav, who in turn was taught at the British artillery school, Wheadon.

I encourage cavalry from all units as well as "redlegs" who wish to participate in a mounted/horse drawn impression, to attend.

Yr. obdt. servant,
Lt. Ken Morris
10th Regt of Cavalry NYSV.
