POPE & PEARSON CHECKS

pOSTED ON Re: Donisthorpe Checks

Before you decide to melt the checks down, the Telford T****r might like to have them and he can make you a few rare ones. Job done.

P.S.Which type of Pope & Pearson checks were they?

Below is a pic of Pope n Pearson checks -
1. the big one made of copper hard metal mix and 30mm diam. These are the original checks.
2. the much smaller 22mm copper hard metal check is very similar, but with a beaded outer decoration. The stamp face of the numbers, although smaller, is same style as the big one, so one could suppose they are genuine issue also.
3. the smaller 22mm unstamped one is made from a brass copper mix and is much lighter in colour, but looks as though it came from same die. This is the version that was found as a "bucket full"

Re: POPE & PEARSON CHECKS

yawn yawn
why all the interest in checks like these with no colliery name on, they're only as good as the morris & shaw & platt bros. just crap!!

Re: POPE & PEARSON CHECKS

Re: POPE & PEARSON CHECKS

COLLECTING OF ANY KIND IS THE DESCISION OF THE COLLECTOR ON HOW VARIED HE WANTS TO COLLECT ITEMS. I DO COLLECT THE PLATTS, MORRIS & SHAW ETC CHECKS. I ALSO COLLECT VARIATIONS IN MATERIAL, STLE AND MINUTE DIFFERENCES. EVEN IF A STAR IS A FLOWER ON A DIFFERENET DATE OF ISSUE, I COLLECT EACH. SOME COLLECTORS ARE SATISFIED WITH JUST ONE CHECK FROM EACH PIT. EACH TO THEIR OWN. WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY.
I THINK THE POPE & PEARSON CHECKS ARE QUITE NICE.
