Davy lamp

Greetings! Could anyone help a novice identify a lamp?
It seems to be a Davy and is marked I Mills
Maker
Newcastle
There are 3 rods surrounding gauze. Co. name is on bonnet.

Re: Davy lamp

The Lamp is by John Mills,Newcastle, the "I" was used instead of the "J" in the 1800s.

Re: Davy lamp

The early marking of I. Mills by the John Mills maker was I understand the Gaelisised version of John, which I think is Iuan. It is an early Davy lamp with the classic Newcastle style bell shaped vessel, and in very good condition. It is quite desireable and would attract a decent price should it come to the market in UK. It originated in Scotland before being sent to USA on a Family connection. The Davy lamp was developed by Sir Humphrey Davy in 1815/6, so I would imagine this lamp is early 1800's. Stephenson and Clanny were developing their lamps at the same time on a similar principle of safety, but different design.
