Newcastle upon Tyne Mining Institute.

Forum members may like to be aware of the following notification that I have today received from the Office of the Mining Institute :

" BBC Look North is featuring the Mining Institute's Library and Lecture Theatre in a short series on the North's splendid interiors. Presented by John Grundy, the well known architectural historian, it is part of a short series about places to visit during the winter months. It highlights the superb interiors to be found in buildings in the North that the public
generally know little about.

Grundy's North is expected to be featured this coming Thursday (3 February) on BBC Look North between 6.30 and 7pm subject to scheduling on the news events on the day. It may be possible to view it later via the BBC local news website or on BBC i-player. "

I have been informed that the programme 'looks very good'. The Institute have a collection of lamps and George Stephenson's first lamp is in the possession of the Newcastle upon Tyne Literary & Philosophical Society who occupy the adjacent building and I hope that this may be shown on the programme, fingers crossed.

I realise however that many forum members will not be able to receive the broadcast on the BBC Look North programme, but as indicated it may be possible to view it on the local news website or on BBC i-player.

Re: Newcastle upon Tyne Mining Institute.

Unfortunately the item on the Newcastle Mining Institute was not broadcast last night due to the number of topical news stories that were broadcast.

You can however view the clip, which includes a shot of George Stephenson's third lamp, (not his first lamp that I incorrectly said in my prvious posting) at:

Information regarding the TV programme will be provided later by the Mining Institute.
