sale of joint home

My fiance inherited a house with his two sisters. One of his sisters decided immediately that she wanted to be bought out. My fiance made payments to her and his other sister paid her off right away. He paid her off in full in October when she wanted to purchase her own home. She gave the both of them papers to sign to have her name removed off of the deed. Something went wrong and her name was never removed. Months later she had more papers to be signed and these papers stated that by law they could not sell the house with out paying taxes on the money for 7 months. My fiance has checks proving that he paid her off in October. We want to sell the house to buy our own home. Can the 7 months be back date to October? When does the seven months begin if this even applies?

Re: sale of joint home

That sounds pretty frustrating.

You and your siblings need to get in touch with a real estate lawyer right away. Show the lawyer all of your paperwork that supports the transactions you spelled out in your question. Hopefully, a lawyer who knows his or her way around the registry of deeds can clear up this problem in short order.

Good luck with this matter.
