Public transport deduction?

Is there a tax deduction available for public transport commuting (probably as a percentage of income if at all)?

Zip Code: 04106

Re: Public transport deduction?

The deduction for public transportation costs follows the rules for deducting your automobile expenses. Commuting between job sites is deductible. So is commuting between your home and a temporary job site, as well as commuting to meeting, seminars, and other business events.

Commuting between your home and a temporary place of business is generally not tax deductible.

Please keep in mind that if you work for a company, you might be eligible to pay for your transit pass with pre-tax dollars. Check with your employer's benefits department.
