Do you think TurboTax and other similar programs are good?

As with any computer program, the output is only as good as the information that is entered into the system.



Over the year, I've seen lots of tax returns prepared with these inexpensive programs. Many times, they appear to be fine. Other times, the tax returns aren't even close to being correct. And when I ask the person to explain why they handled a tax issue a certain way, they always respond with these exact words, "I don't know. I just answered the questions on Turbo Tax."



If you prepare your own taxes, that'a fine. However, I don't know how a person can prepare one tax return a year and feel confident that the returns were prepared correctly.
