FICA return

Good morning,

I wondered where things are regarding the FICA returns mentioned on the website. It looks like that posting was from 2001. I was a resident from 1/00 to 12/02. Am I entitled to this return, and would I still need the letter from the hospital regarding class action filing?

The other question is regarding what schedule to file for business expenses if I have been an employee for the entire year.

Thanks

Re: FICA return

I have met with a few people from one of the hospitals in Boston, and they have just found out that they might be getting back their FICA taxes for 1998 and 1999. So this issues seems to have some legs.

It seems that you have the best shot of getting back your FICA taxes if the hospital that you worked at is nice enough to try to get back these taxes for all of their trainees. I'm not sure if anyone who has submitted an individual claim lately has had much success.

With respect to deducting professional expenses if you're an employee, you need to complete a Form 2106, and then claim those expenses as a miscellaneous itemized deduction.
