Hiya there,
As things stand on Friday the 19th September I will start this great Challange, organised by Enduroman and sponsored by Artemis.
It's a solo attempt at linking London and Paris by running, swimming and cycling.
Through this Challenge I am raising money for the Tusk Trust. This extremely important and worthwhile Trust is involved with conservation of wildlife, promoting education and supporting sustainable community development programmes across 17 counties in Africa.
You can help and show your support by making a donation ... every ££ counts!
Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
Bugs_________counting down in hours.
Gino...I know this will be an endurance event for you and the Team as I've had a taste of supporting Nino on one of those nut job events so good luck to you all.
Also will catch up with Aunt Bev....before 19th to get some real-time family reaction.
Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
NOT LONG NOW!
Hiya, Checked the weather again and there is no real change so Friday looks like the day.
Slightly nervous now as we get the final things in place!
Had a long chat with Carrie, my nutritionist, and the biggest shock for me is that I could potentially loose as much as 10kg’s of body weight during the attempt… not bad beats ad diet!
Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
Counting down the hours. Hope you are handling the nerves. Go well tomorrow as we will be thinking of you from Cape Town and Knysna and JHB. I am very proud of you.Gino, I know you will keep us posted as best you can. I will be with you in thought all the way to Paris

Best of luck Nino. Just signed myself up for 2010 so will look forward to hearing of your adventures. Will be with you in sprit all the way through and will be sending you "keep going" telepathic vibes. Just relax and enjoy the experience. Hi Baggers
Good luck for today, I was so engrossed in my work, I almost forgot about you. Only jokes, just mentioned that as I forwarded the blog to my Ops Director so just in case she checks your blog she can see I've been hard at work, laugh.
Success is not a result of spontanious combustion, you must set yourself on fire.

Well good morning guys and dolls and a special hello to beautiful Kent morning. Overnight was freezing but today looks like another bobby dazzler. Of course I appreciate you haven't tuned into here for a weather forecast. Progess overnight has been steady and Nino appears to be in good nick still( considering there are 2 back to back marathons under his ever deminishing belt). So a liitle over 60ish miles covered as far and just the one marathon to go. We are roughly on race pace predictions so hopefully we'll see you Tom in Dover about 11ish this morning.
Dawn's rosy fingers are on the horizon now, so that's a welcome boost.
Good morning little Max hope you slept better than daddy...

Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
Hi Guys
Well done Nino for the run xx & support team for keeping up! Twigg told me that the optimum swim time was around 3 in the morning...bloody hell mate thats mad...how exciting!! Some words of warning...Twigg is really baaaaad first thing on a morning, especially if he is tired. We go running at 7am and its like Gordon Ramsey expecting Michelin Star cooking from a 4 year old!!! Grumpy is not a suitable word to describe it!! My words of wisdom to manage the Twiggster...don't moan - you'll get grumpy Twigg (well harsh!) and always swim ahead of him (he might be sea sick - not nice and that would be extra weight to carry on your back!!)
You're a complete star. I think the run has got to be the most challenging and you've done that - the rest is still hard but exciting - when was the last time you swam the channel or cycled to Paris?! Embrace every moment - this is time of life experience stuff!
Keep it up mate and be assured that your support team is there because they are experts and are there to look after you. xx

Nino has been fed and watered and is sleeping now. The ever busy behind the scenes support crew are organising the kit and sorting out the vechiles for the next leg. The weather here today has been good however the start time of the swim is unconfirmed. I am anticipating a start time of about 3am tomorrow morning. I will keep you updated.
PS - In all the excitement of the start yesterday , I wanted to let all you Masterchef fans out here know I saw Michel Roux Jr at Marble Arch. He obviously wasn't here especially for the start but it was nice to see him there anyway - he seems a jolly nice chap....does anybody know won Masterchef Professional?

Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
DEVASTATING NEWS: the weather has rapidly deteriorated over the last 12 hours and swim is impossible tonight. The forecast is equally depressing with a break in the weather anticipated only towards the back-end of the week. In an effort to show the quality of Nino's ability it has been decided to get on the first available ferry to Calais and complete the cycle leg. Hopefully the weather improves during the cycle leg to allow for the channel swim on his return.
This has been a huge blow to Nino and the team as his run was very strong and hopes that he would set a new world record. As we all have learnt this Enduroman event is a massive test both of physical and mental strength. Somethings are just out of your control.
Updates will follow.

Morning Nino and the rest of the team,
This is devastating news. Tell Nino I feel for him and that I hope the weather improves so he can complete his swim on his return.
How is Nino's spirits this morning. So at what time will he start his cycle leg.
Thanks Gino for the update and please let the updates come as I am not moving from the PC today.
Tell Nino to have a safe ride and I am with him all the way.
Love

Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
Just some additional details on the mornings' events. Nino awoke in good spirits and feeling physically OK. We got to the harbour in a very focussed frame of mind. We had just finished packing the boot when the captain broke the news that two another attempts had to be abandoned and our attempt was off too- the 2 other teams were relay teams.
After some discussion it was decided that the most positive step would be to continue with the cycle as the weather forecast is not good for the next few days.
We are increasingly positive and looking forward to getting started with the cycle although there is a real sense of dissapointment at not cracking the record...

Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
It is very disappointing that the record could not be broken. Nino has trained so hard and was so focused. So what will happen now? Are you going to do the cycle leg and when do you expect it to start.
Nino this message is for you. I really feel for you I dont know how you are feeling but I am devasted but be positive and have a fantastic ride.
Gino thanks for the update and please keep us posted
To the rest of the support crew thanks again for all you have done for Nino

Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
Hi,
Nino, you must be on your bike for quite a while now. I know the bike is your "happy place" and that you will be mentally rejuvenated when you get to the
Arc. Now it's just all fingers crossed for the weather! This is far from over. "DIG IN" as those in the know have said!
Really great to see Aunty Bev, Shaun and Sue - Ann's names! Hope you are all doing well. Long time no see.
Gino and crew, thank you AGAIN!We can tell Nino is WELL taken care of.
Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
Hi to you all. Whilst we were out of town this morning, we were kept up to date with progress by Pat. So sorry to hear the swim has been postponed. I won't dwell on it as you are well into the bike phase and I'm sure you are concentrating on that. Good luck, Nino! Gino: we're home now. Max is rifling through my wallet as we speak...
Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
Sorry to hear about the decision to miss the swim. The weather has been pretty awful for the whole of the summer in Dover. For those that are not aware of the race rules, Nino's Enduroman challenge will end at Paris. If he decides to attempt a swim at the end of the week this will seen as a separate solo attempt at a channel crossing.
I wish Nino all the luck for the rest of the bike stage.

Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
We are just over half way on the bike leg with 7H20min on the timer. He is cycling well into fearsome headwind - presumably the wind that cut up the channel today. He is focused on the task at hand although clearly disappointed. i predict something around 12ish pm tonight- but it's a decent wind blowing and we're only just over half way. But he is determined to have a good cycle leg. Will update closer to Paris or if anything changes.

Nino , an outstanding achievement. We hope the remainder of cycle goes well. It takes a very special and dedicated individual to undertake what you have. Undertaking these enormous challenges doesn’t come without their misfortunes which great achievers have to accept. It is slightly scary to think what you will set out to achieve next! Rather proud!
Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
Hi Guys,
How is Nino doing? Is the wind still so hectic. Please tell him that he is Very Special and we are all with him. Keep the goal in site you are almost there.

Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
Approx 12 hours in andabout 50kms out of Paris. Possibly the toughest ,hardest , furthest 50 kms you could imagine. This event is truly brutal. Nino is cycling in the pitch dark roads with reasonably heavy traffic.
Although he has lights on the bike I still find it rather terrifying as the cars are whizzing past and he by himself. He is showing signs of severe fatigue - unsurprisingly. I don't think he has fed well enough today Carrie - sorry. We are however addressing that as I type.
The bright lights of Paris can not come soon enough....

Hey you - keep going. You've done the most amazing run and cycle. Really excitingly you were on Radio 4 news too this lunchtime - a friend rang to tell me. I've rung Nicky to tell her so she's going to see if she can hunt down the news item. Think you're amazing for sticking with your dream. Love, Sam, Sal and Veronica xx

Hey Nino,
you've obviously made a lot of people very proud of you, not just because of the ability you have as an athlete but because you've been able to overcome such a blow and still keep going.
Enjoy the arrival in Paris, you've earned it.

Well done Nino,
SH*T happens so don't be too disappointed as everyone knows the capricious mood of the channel remains an impediment to any channel attempt.
I know what effort you put into A2A especially the swimming having been your housemate until the runnup to the event. Having been there and experienced some of the other unbelievable activies you partook in, all that I can say is I am your biggest fan. I know your mom and aunt will challenge me on this statement.
Well done to your support crew as well for their committed efforts.
Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
Well done Nino and the crew.Tough luck on the channel swim. But one hell of an achievment nevertheless. You are truly an exceptional athlete.Congrats to all.

Hey Nino....just logged on and can't believe it's all over! Sounds like you ran and cycled fantastically. I just also wanted to send my congratulations. Although I didn't get on here in time I was thinking about you all the way. I can't imagine how gruelling it must have been.....a far cry from the treadmill in Canary Wharf ;-) Anyway, hope the recovery goes well and you're not tooo skinny now. Take care, love Sal xx
Re: Nino Baglione - Arch to Arc Attempt 19th Sept 08 - Live Feed
Good Afternoon All,
firstly I'd like to thank everyone for there support both during the event and over the past 18 months without you this wouldn't have been nearly as much fun.
I'd also like to thank my support crew who unselfishly gave up their own time to accompany me throughout the journey to Paris.
They were the best support crew I could have had!!
Gino, Twigg, Karly, Carrie, Neva, Andy, Ed and Tom thank you again.
Not wanting to look at the sad point that the channel did not provide the sea conditions we were hoping for.
The run of 19hrs52mins was very satisfying and to still be running strong when we entered Dover was a great feeling much like the feeling of pounding the pedals into the head wind on the way to Paris.
it was a great trip and one that will stay with me for ever.
