Duke of Wellington Regiment 1880's and 90's

Wondering if anyone has historic info on the Duke of Wellington Regiment. 1886 to 1890

Trying to find out if my great grandfather belonged to this regiment Benjamin Wills. He lived in East Yorkshire as a young man, think he was with the East Yorshire yeomanry in the early 1880's info on this would be fantastic too.

Re: Duke of Wellington Regiment 1880's and 90's

The Duke of Wellington's Regimental HQ is in Halifax and so is the Regimental Museum at Bankfield Museum run by Calderdale Council.
Sadly the Dukes are being amalgamated into a new Yorkshire Regiment but will retain - we hope - the association with Halifax and other parts of the West Riding from Skipton to Sheffield - their historic recruiting area.
Before they took the name of The Duke of Wellington they were the 33rd Regiment of Foot [ still in their officlal name ] and for any readers in America were part of the force uner Lord Cornwallis in the War of Independence and at the victory of the Battle of Camden, South Carolina and the defeat at Yorktown where Lord Cornwallis had to surrender.
