Garden Menaces

in past years my garden has been plagued with Slugs, over the years i seem to have eliminated them, but now I am being inundated with another menace namely "Snails". I have dozens of them, havent a clue how this has come about, and boy can they climb, have found them half way up a lilac tree on the Birds Nut Container, and yesterday had two of them racing each other up my lounge bay window. Has anyone else got this problem, if so I would be pleased to know the best way to eliminate these horrors.

Re: Garden Menaces

Yes, they are a so-and-so nuisance. We were plagued with them for several years and then last year a pair of thrushes nested in a garden a few doors away. I understand that thrushes like them and know to drop them from a height onto a stone to crack them open. We hardly saw a snail last year, but I haven't seen the thrushes this year and we are beginning to see the mountaineering snails again! Slug pellets will do the trick but, regardless of the producers saying that they will not harm birds and hedgehogs, I don't like using them apart from under large stones supported on smaller ones.

Interesting re the reply about Thrushes having a liking for Snails, since I posted about this, the numbers seem to have gone done, and we have two pairs of Blackbirds in our back garden nesting at the momemnt, wonder if they are partial to Snails also.
