Malham Cove

There are so many fascinating places in this wonderful county of Yorkshire that it is impossible to say that any is 'best'. Malham Cove I have found interesting and when I have had German business visitors whose visit has extended over a weekend I have usually taken them to Malham and then over the top to Kettlewell. In a morning if the sun is shining the Cove stands out magnificently as you approach from Kirkby Malham, a wonderful view.
On my visits I am always reminded of when my sister and friend stayed at Malham for a couple of nights. I think it would be in the early 1950s. On their return they related the story - presumably true - that some time, shortly before, a man had been found at the foot of the Cove. In his pocket was a half-crown (12and a half pence in the new-fangled stuff) together with a hand-written note telling the person who found his body to buy themselves a whisky! I wonder if anyone can verify this story. Please write in if you can.

Re: Malham Cove

Can't help, I'm afraid, Peter. All I know is that Jack and Jill went up the hill...and Jack came down with half a crown...but I reckon that is a different story!
