You probably need a more modern version of expander (e.g., 5.something). Version 4 won't unstuff much of what you find on the web. |

I hope this will help, this is version 5.0 of Stuffit Expander... It's just the installer, but can you load this with the unstuffer your using? http://download.mindspring.com/mac/stuffitexp.html |

Thanks to Nick's sleuthing, you now have a download link to expander 5.0. It's in .sit format, which means that it's best to download this on a mac. Mac files are a little strange in that they have two parts ("forks"). Windows files aren't like that, so Windows machines generally lose one of these forks. As long as you download this correctly, your expander (version 4.1) will correctly expand version 5, and you should be in good shape from that point on. |

If the files are in binhex (.hqx) format, then there is generally no problem downloading on a PC. However, a .sit or uncompressed macintosh file will often get damaged when downloaded on a pc. It sounds likely that your problems are indeed more related to downloading on a pc, rather than a pure stuffit problem per se. If you can find a friend with a mac, that would help track down (and likely solve) this problem. Good luck! |

Well I was able to get my downloaded files (binhex etc.) off my Gateway to my Macintosh Performa w/o any issues. I used a disk to format it. Even though I had to intialize it and put it in DOS format, It worked fine. What Tom was saying is true about forks. This definitly worked when I did the same thing to test it on my PB 17" and Gateway to my PB 540c, I used the file I downloaded, then posted it on here with a floppy disk. Since I didn't even have Expander on my 540c, I used the file I gave you. Good Luck!! |
