Apple IIgs question (don't know where else to turn...)
I've got a problem with an old Apple IIgs, and wonder if anybody here might be able to help... I remember my brother always came to this site back when he was going through his little geek stage, haha. Anyway, yes; I am aware this is pre 68k, and the Mac itself, but thought someone here might be able to help... When I type in the d.o.s. prompt (PR#6), it consistently delivers the error "this is not a boot disk", instead of running the disk, like it always has before... This problem just showed up, and I have never seen it before, it seems to do this on all my disks; did I somehow erase the operating system? (in that case I'm going to get to do some serious digging around for the install disks...) Or is there some magic piece of d.o.s. prompt I need to make it run again? I'll screw around with it more tomorow, but thought this might be a good place to try first... Maybe its just a drive mapping problem? |

I would look for some installation disks and restart the system software, but if it's doing this to all your disks, then it may not work. But sometimes Mac's act weird for some reason, they won't read your disks, etc. Did you try zapping the PRAM? Or, what kind of external floppy disk drive are you using? (It may not be much of help, but maybe it's not connected right). Or you can reset the HD. (Take the GS apart and remove the wire for it, and plug it back in the HD.) If it has a built in HD, I don't think so, but don't make me feel bad. I'm better with Macintosh then Apple II. That's probably the best things you can do. P.S. Yay for Apple II GS!!!! I'm making a emulator for it! |

There are a number of Apple-II sites around, btw. Even the 68k MLA has an Apple-II-specific forum (www.68kmla.net). You'll find that there is a dedicated core of "II forever" enthusiasts on the web. It's likely that one of them can help you. |
