Booting a Mac Classic

Hi Everybody!
I've just boughht a Classic (for about 2$!!)
Unfortunately, after the booting, a password program starts. How can I bypass this program and start using my brand new mac?. I tryed to connect the internal HD to a g4(provided vith a SCSI card) but I don't see it and I can't delete the program.
Please, help me.
I want to use it SOOOO BAAAD!!!
thanks

Re: Booting a Mac Classic

does it boot to "At EAse"? If so, you'll need to reformat the drive and reinstall mac os - a very common dilema on older macs

Re: Booting a Mac Classic

As jag says, this is very common, particularly among macs that were once used in schools. The Classic is an interesting mac because it has a built-in ROM-based system that can boot it. If you hold down command-option-x-o while it boots, it will bypass other boot volumes and run off of the system in ROM (a stripped down version of 6.0.3). I don't know if that will then let you to go in and disable AtEase (or whatever it is), but it's easy enough to try.

Re: Booting a Mac Classic

I had this same problem when I got my Classic II...
The way I worked around it is to get a boot disk for System 7.
Boot the system from the floppy WITHOUT EXTENSIONS enabled.
Once you are up, go to the HD system folder and trash anything that has to do with At Ease. Also look in the extensions folder and remove anything in there also.

You may have to reboot and trash a few times, depending on what else was affected by At Ease.

This is the process I went thru and I eventually got the system to boot up into System 7 desktop with no problems.
