just questions

Hi! I am new to this site and see at the top of the screen that you do not want debate of doctorines. If you consider my question to be that, please delete it, as I do want to be respectful of your site.

I just have a question which I am wondering if there is anyone who can help me answer. I was raised in an Independent Baptist Church, but have been attending a Free Will Baptist Church for several months now. One difference I have noticed is that the FWB Church does not preach their doctorines as much as IBs do. I am curious-- is anyone else aware of the doctorines of FWBs and the differences between the two churches? I have asked a few FWBs about it, but they do not really know what the IBs teach... Can anyone help me? Thanks!
Marlon

Re: just questions

Hi,
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your question. I have no problem trying to answer questions for sincere people who are looking for an answer. It's our desire to be a help in anyway that we can.
I am by no means an expert on Free Will Baptist, but I will try to give a brief summary of the basic differences in them and the Independant Fundamental Baptist.
I guess the main difference would be that the Free Will Baptist do not hold to the doctorine of Eternal Security. IFB believe that once someone is truly born again they cannot loose their salvation by any means whereas FWB believe you can be saved and then loose their salvation. The concept is not of someone sinning occasionally and thus accidentally ending up lost, but instead of someone rejecting their initial choice by continual, willful sinning and an unwillingness to repent once confronted. They basically believe that you can just "stop believing" one day and become lost all over again or that through our weakness we can fall into habitual sin and thus be lost.

Secondly, FWB generally hold to the belief of Amillennialism which is basically an interpertation of chapter 20 of the book of Revelation which sees the 1000 year reign of Christ as non-literal, figurative or symbolic.Amillennialism teaches that the Kingdom of God will not be physically established on earth throughout the "millennium", but rather that the Christian church represents Christ's spiritual kingdom and that Christ is presently reigning from heaven, seated at the right hand of God the Father. Amillennialism is most often associated with Idealism as both teach a very symbolic and spiritualised understanding of many of the prophecies of the Bible and especially the Book of Revelation. IFB generally hold to the premillennialism view which is the interpretation of chapter 20 of the Book of Revelation in the Bible which sees Christ's second coming as occurring before or pre- his literal thousand year reign on earth.

Third, FWB believe Christ instituted 3 ordanances of the Church, Baptism, The Lords Supper, and Footwashing whereas IFB believe in only 2 ordanances, Believers Baptism and The Lords Supper.

I hope this helps somewhat. Thanks again for visiting our site!

Re: just questions

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me... OK... Here is my main thing for the decision to attend the FWB church...OSAS... I have always been taught and believed OSAS, but am having trouble believing it anymore. The FWBs are giving me scriptural examples to show their beliefs and these do make sense to me.. From what I have learned from them, they believe that you can turn away from God and lose your salvation... Any input on this?

I really do appreciate you taking the time to help me here. This is something I have been battling with for months now. I really do enjoy the new church I have been attending, and feel the Lords presence there, I guess its just the doctorinal beliefs which have me confused.

Also, are there any online or printed books or references which you would recommend to help me to help as I read and study the Bible? Its hard sometimes to really understand what I am reading...

Thanks!!
marlon

Re: just questions

Hi,

I would like to reccomend an article by Bro. David W. Cloud, it can be found here: http://www.wayoflife.org/fbns/eternalsecurity.htm
In fact i reccomend Bro. David's Website, Way of Life as a great online resource for anyone.
I also want to reccomend an article by Dr. Charles Stanley found at:
http://www.intouch.org/myintouch/exploring/bible_says/eternal_security/arguments_149081.html
If you see our "Articles" page here on our website there are also some good articles dealing with eternal
security, the majority can be found at the bottom of the page.
As far as printed books, I reccomend the "Thru the Bible" series by J. Vernon McGee. Although he is not "Baptist" he is fundamental, meaning he holds true to the fundamentals of the faith. Thru the bible is not deep but it helps with basic understanding of the scriptures. The books can be found here:
http://www.thruthebible.org/site/c.hvKSLdMYIsG/b.403411/k.826F/Welcome_to_Thru_the_Bible_RadioThe_Bible_Study_Program_Taught_by_Dr_J_Vernon_McGee.htm_
You can also download Dr. McGee's Thru the Bible radio program MP3's.
I also reccomend any of the books offered in the Sword of the Lord bookstore located at: http://www.swordofthelord.com/
They offer quality books which are doctorinally sound.
Books can be a great help in your Bible study but when it comes down to it to trully have an understanding of the Scriptures, one must be dependant on the Holy Spirit to impart understanding.
1Cr 2:14- But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.
The most important keys to understanding the Word of God is to study it:
PRAYERFULLY- asking and depending on the HOLY SPIRIT to impart the knowledge and wisdom and understanding you need.
FAITHFULLY- study the word daily without fail
COMPLETELY- don't take one verse and try to understand it outside of the context and the collective message of the entire Bible.
OBEDIENTLY- you may not understand all of what you read but it is very important and biblical (Psa 119:100)that you obey what you DO understand. A wise man once said: "Light obeyed increases light. Light disobeyed decreases light." As you obey the understanding that the Lord gives you he will then give you more, if one refuses to practice the Word of God as God has given them understanding, they can't expect him to reveal more of it to them.
I hope this has been a help.
Fred

Re: just questions

Dear Friends in Christ:

Your church, ministry and/or school has a unique financial profile, with unique needs to finance your construction, renovation, debt consolidation, refinancing or building projects.

Finding church and religious school lenders can be a very frustrating and time-consuming process. Well, Set2Go Loans is here to take that burden away from the borrower. We are tied into a host of church and religious school lenders. That enables us to offer church and school loans of almost all sizes. These loans could be for new church and/or school construction, major church and/or school renovations, purchasing existing church and/or school facilities, land acquisition and the refinancing of existing loans.

While church and school financing can be frustrating, your church, school or organization can go through the process nearly hassle free by allowing Set2Go to assist with the financing of your church or school. If you are considering refinancing your church or school loan, the first steps are determining your short and long term goals and then evaluating the different types of refinance programs out there. Once you have your goals to what's available, you will be able to make an informed decision on how you want to proceed. The first thing to consider is your current interest rate. If the church and/or school was bought when interest rates were high or if you have an adjustable rate mortgage, chances are refinancing to a different lower rate or longer term may be able to save your congregation money immediately and over the course of your loan.

Some possible uses of financing:
Construction of new church and/or school buildings.
Complete church and/or school renovations.
Improving church and/or school accessibility.
Purchasing a church organ.
Buying property for church and/or school expansion.
Paving church and/or school parking lots.
Repairing or replacing roofs.
Replacing heating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Refinancing existing church and/or school mortgage loans.
Purchasing or renovating parsonage / teacherage.
Or other types of loans (just ask).

At Set2Go Loans, we exist to help equip churches that are planning to build or expand their ministry for today's culture. We do this through innovative and effective growth expansion programs. By using our lending resources, we can help you embrace the future by increasing your ministry's potential without having all the headaches of the financial worries. All of our financial resources that deal with lending, planning and construction have been explicitly chosen with an understanding of the ministry and how to effectively minister in today's world. Our mission is to help serve and expand your ministry and let you utilize the power of our lender resources.

If you would like to enjoy the benefits of partnering with the some of the most successful church lenders, please feel free to contact me.
