The manxathletics.com forum

Welcome to the manxathletics.com forum.  Please share information and your views on the sport in the Isle of Man with others.

The forum has been operating in its present form since April 2004 and I particularly welcome comments from new contributors, whether you live on or off the Isle of Man, if you have an interest in Manx athletics.

Many people have used the forum to give thanks to the officials or their own supporters when they have enjoyed an event. Contrustive criticism is always welcome as an additional means of communication, although it is not intended to replace formal communication between clubs and other bodies and their members.

If you are unable to find information about an event on any of the Manx websites, then the forum is the best place to ask for help from other people. Whilst you can email me at murray@manxathletics.com  and I will do my best to point you in the right direction, the people who have the answer to your question are likely to visit the forum so it is better that you ask it here. manxathletics.com is an independent site and I do not hold office within any of the five Manx clubs.

There are a few rules. Firstly, you should always use your real name as, apart from making people accountable for what they say, one of the objectives of the website is to make the sport friendly and appealing so please do not hide behind a nickname (anonymous entries will be deleted). Secondly, (it should go without saying) you must not insult or offend anyone. Thirdly, pesistent abuse of rules 1 and 2 will result in the forum being withdrawn.

Thanks for being sensible and I hope you continue to enjoy the forum and the sport.

Murray Lambden

Message:   Some great performances over the weekend.

I do not know all results or have accurate times/perfs but from memory here are a few :-

Tom Richmond - 1.56.5 big new pb in 800m. Ran a very aggressive race and was rewarded with a fine performance in third place.

Sarah Dowling - 58.9 anther great pb and a fine run on a breezey day.

Rachael Franklin - 2.18 and bits. A great run for first real race of season. More to come I think.

Nicola Cooil - 61.9 in 400m I think and looked good in the 800m also. Nice to see her looking positive and running well.

Julie Harrison - what a star - in the 100 and 200 showed her from and speed of old also did the 1500m and 3000m as well as both relays!!!

Andy Duncan - 4.11.1 in 1500m. Less than a second off pb after a winter of problems - lets hope he can get into good form later in the summer and rewrite the pbs.

Daz Gray - 10.00.8 in a dry chase!!! Would have been close to pb had they had a working water jump perhaps even inside it!!!

Marit Zahkna - 47m to win hammer, second in long jump and 1st in triple jump. Great perfs on her debut for the club - I know she was a little disappointed with her Hammer but am sure there is plenty more to come over the summer.

Mikey Haslett and David Munroe - great runs over 400 flat, 400 hurdles and in the relays. Not pbs (apologies if got this wrong ) but excellent markers made to out do over the season etc.

John Halligan - did well getting back to running after a long illness.

Shaun Cregeen and Dan Stewart-Clague - good results in high jump and in numerous other events.

Daniel Chan - debut in league - ran well in sprints and relays.

Relay teams - 2nd in one and won the other 3 - wow - not seen that from the harriers for a long time - pretty good times also.

Thanks to the travelling band of officials also - Bernie (the ever present) Shimell, Jenny Dowling and Stuart Cregeen.

Apologies to the rest of the squad - I did not see all the perfs and am getting older now so unfortunately forget things a little more easily than I used to. It has to be said that the club can do very well in this league. We just need a few more ladies out and a few field event specialists - partic. throws - and we can hopefully bounce back to div. 2.

Sounds like WAC/NAC had a good event too - perhaps 3rd. overall. I do not really know any perfs in detail - Ryan Fariclough ran about 2.05 I think for 800m and Paul Renshaw was satisfied with his 5000m run. Louise Kneen has some injury problems at present but perfprmed well considering in the shot and discus. Don't really know of much else I am afraid.

Also just for interest - Keith Gerrard won his 5km heat in 14.46 at the BUSA champs on Saturday. The final is today so will post the result when he lets me know how it went. Come on Keith!!!
