Have your say: The Shapeshifters - "Sensitivity"
This refers to the news section item on March 20th 2006 entitled "The Shape Of Things": Listen to the track: http://emichrysalis.co.uk/players/shapeshifters/player3/ Tell us what do you think, about the track. Is it heaven? Or sadly lacking in some things? To many strings? To little Nile? What are your thoughts?

Thank's a lot Pocat for this gemm ! Nile's guitare is very CHIC. You are right : I think there is too much strings and not enough BASS. One of the secret of a classic CHIC song is "just what it needs, not too much". The female singer is not "amazing" : the non vocal part is what I prefere ! As you said, the maxi version will be very interesting I think.

Just listened to "Sensitivity" and think it's an up to date, catchy track that has, like many songs today, elements of the Chic sound in it but nowhere near as distinctive as I thought it was going to be. My guess would be if you listened to the Mathis track it would sound VERY different with far more bass and guitar prominence. Think of something like "Your Love is Cancelled" recorded around the same time and then listen to "Sensitivity" again. Like I say, a nice track but I'd really have to listen hard to find anything that grabs me as "Written , arranged and Conducted by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers" ! |

I think the song was pretty good, however the female singer lacks 'it' in her voice so the outcome is a bit disappointing despite great guitar work and wonderful strings. p.s. a recommendation for all disco music lovers; keep an eye out for Final Approach - 'We like to boogie', it´s one of the best rare disco gemms I´ve heard in years, love it!!! wonderful arrangements, very positive vibe...produced by legendary Tommy Stewart. d.s. |

Well it isn't a CHIC track. It's a Shapeshifters track, so of course it would sound different than a bonafide CHIC track. As it is, even with the very heavy, non-CHIC like, string arrangements (very Lola's Theme), not counting the strings stabs, and the not very articulated bass, I like it very much. Of course the main attraction is Nile's guitarplay (and count off ), but I like the heavy strings, and the singer, even if she's no match for Alfa, Sylver, Luci, Norma Jean, Jessica, Fonzi, Michelle and the rest of the CHIC gang vocalists. I like the Shapeshifters attempt at CHIC gang vocals in the second half of the track. And did you all catch the "I Want Your Love" string part at the very end? That's something I like, a little wink back to the glory days .I'm very pleased with this track, and see it as a great appetizer before the astounding meal that we all are about to get. BTW: I've seen some reviews out there and they do not mention that this is a sample from a demo that was to become one of the tracks from the STILL!!!! not released CHIC/Johnny Mathis album. We need to get the word out. So if you see such a review that you are able to comment on, please include the info on the CHIC/Mathis album, maybe someone will see it and help us get it out. Or if you review the track or album on Amazon or any such place include the info on the Mathis album. You never know what might help. |

I am listening to Sensitivity and really don't hear any Chic sound. It sounds very updated dance oriented. As someone shared, the Mathis version probably sound more like Chic. The vocals are good and with all due respect to Alfa and Luci, this vocalist is much stronger or at least show some range. Most of Chic's stuff had the women holding back so you could not really tell what power they had. Only on We Are Family does Kathy belts it. Still waiting for the Mathis project. Bruh |

Just heard the track Sensitivity. It`s OK. Good guitar work from Nile as usual, vocals OK, strings good, but where is the kicking bass and drums. The backing track sounds a bit me too in todays dance music world with nothing REALLY special that jumps out at you that makes you want to drive all over town to buy it. |

i think it's a very good song very powerfull. But the voice of Sylver is a much better. It is a very good song in the disco especially in Holland we love their music. One thing i want more bass in the song. The strings are very chic. I love it!!!!!!!!!!! But i'm hoping their is soon a new Chic album i'm waiting so long for new funky dance music. Greetings and kisses from Sharon from the Netherlands

Hello !!! I think this is a superb dance track. Nile's touch is more "CHIC" than what we can hear in other recent works. The strings are a pleasant point: they are conducted just like Chic did in some of their best classics. I miss the bass-line ... I miss a real Chic bass-line that could fill the song up ... Anyway, it's a nice dance track, where we can smell the Chic scent ... Hope the new Chic single will be wonderful ... CIAO !!!

I think it's a catchy song, nice beat. A bit like the Brand New Heavies I think. I will give the rest of the album a try too! |

For me, Nile's work on the track is the track is the only point of interest, and the only reason to buy it! The singers vocals are nothing special, they'd have been better off using the girl who sang on "Lolas Theme" instead. Nice video though. Probably a minor hit.
