Update #2 - July 31, 2007
Update #2 – July 30, 2007 With just over a month until the race start, preparations are nearing completion. Please note the following changes to the “Mandatory Safety Gear List” and additional information. • Under the Mountain Biking Portion – add a front white bike light (attached to the bike) and a rear red flashing bike light (attached to the bike) for both 9 and 18 hour teams • Under the Ropes Portion – Delete the two (2) 12” sewn slings • Under Gear to be carried at ALL times by EACH person – delete the fleece top • Bike helmets are an acceptable alternative to climbing helmets. The cliff where the rappel will take place has a very stable rock surface with little to no loose rocks There will NOT be a gear check at check-in. There will be mandatory gear check(s) on the course. Failure to have the required gear will result in a time penalty. • As a reminder, print the waiver and send with the team registrations form • Although somewhat primitive, camping will be available at NO COST at the Illinois City Grange Hall. There is plenty of room for all teams to camp in a large grassy field. Portable toilets will be located nearby with water available along with a large picnic shelter. I would highly recommend that teams bring bottled water for drinking as the well water in this area is quite stinky. Do not underestimate the challenge and difficulty of this course. It is hilly, rugged, and long. Team Enviromark – Orthopaedic Specialists have been pre- running all sections of the course. It is one of the best courses we have run in the Midwest! So……Keep training and preparing, as my dad always stressed, “you get out of it, what you put into it!” Gerry |
