Mandatory "Safety" Gear List
As many of you are beginners to adventure sports and adventure racing, others of you are more experienced and have been "bitten" by the gear bug (much more expensive than bird flu I have found), the following gear list will reflect what is necessary for your safety and comfort along with what you can bring if you already own it. * Sleeping Bag * Pillow * Toiletries * Headlamp (Preferred) or Flashlight * Rain Gear (Jacket and Pants)No Ponchos * Trail Running shoes (2 pair) * Compass (cheap is ok) * Leather Full Finger Gloves * Fleece or Polypro Top * Small Back Pack or Camelbak with at least 70 oz. capacity * Long Pants or Tights * Whistle * Emergency Blanket * Lighter or Waterproof Matches * Hat (Beanie or Baseball Cap) * Protective Eyewear * Small Folding Knife Note: Bring at least two changes of clothes. Clothes should be tight fitting as you will be donning climbing harnesses. You also will get wet from doing stream crossings and from the caving. (Caving will depend on whether the bats are nesting or not) You may be wet from mid thigh down so prepare enough clothes. Also, bring warm clothes for sitting around the campfire. You may also bring folding chairs. (Bring it if you already own it but don't go out and buy it YET! * Climbing Harness (UIAA Approved) * 3 Locking Carabineers * Helmet (Climbing Only) No Biking * 2 Sewn Slings 12" in length * ATC or Figure 8 * 2 36" 7mm Prussik Loops Note: All this equipment is available from Active Endeavors in Davenport, Iowa or at www.qcactive.com. Matt Ostrom, the owner is a hugh supporter of adventure racing and is one of our team sponsors. All camp registrants will receive a discount on the equipment noted above. Just indicate to an associate at the store that you are participating in the camp to receive the discount. Note: The list may be added to in the future. Stay tuned for any changes. |

Re: Mandatory "Safety" Gear List
Hi Carrie! The following is my "recommended" climbing equipment by brand. I have personally used, tested, or raced with each item. Active Endeavors will give 15% discount off the retail listed price. * Black Diamond Alpine Bod harness - $29.95 * Black Diamond Rock Lock Screwgate caribiners - $9.95 each * Black Diamond Super 8 - $14.95 * Black Diamond ATC - $18.95 * Black Diamond 12" Sewn Slings - $2.75 ea. * Petzel Cordex K 52 Rappel Glove - $27.95 ea. * Petzel Ecrin Roc Helmet - $89.95 or * Meteor lll Helmet - $99.95 The total cost of the recommended gear is $112.20 retail excluding the helmet. (which I will provide for the camp). With the discount the total would be around $100. Quite a good deal if you are planning on adventure racing in the future. If you are interested in owning your own gear (which I would highly recommend) call to preorder at Active Endeavors at 563-441-9490. |
