Warp 2007
Any news or tests I have to say that I'm a little bit confused since North-Sails doesn't have any top formula racers in their team ? Is that a choise of them, or do they don't have the money or can't they get the top sailors to use the sails. Any information here? |

None yet, as the Caviglia race was the first one where anyone sailed some (they sure look great). But then again, Micah sailed the new Neil Pryde's for the first time at this race too.....Most sailmakers release their new race sails in the period of now through March, and always have. So hopefully soon there will be plenty of info on them. But you wanted to know about top sailors using the North Sails, and that is reported on...... |

Couple of races has been raced over there. It seems that Warp 2007 were numerous. Some news on them? I sail the 161 so NP or Severne would be a good choice too. Any news on them too? thank you |
06 or 07

I was late to make an order for Warp 07 and now has an opportunity for new Warp 06 with good discount. What improvements I'll lose using 06 sail instead of 07? |

new to F2 boards
May 13th, 2007 - 11:48 PM |
"Lots of the downtime is being spent discussing equipment and tuning. A huge majority of the racers are using the F2 Formula board, and Gonzalo has been sharing some tuning secrets learned at the last few events in Europe. The fin of choice is still the Kashy, for those lucky enough to have them." I live on the other side of the globe. Would be very nice to read here some of that secrets, numeric settings, specific problems and detection ways. My board will arrive this week. Your forum and website is that rare place where I can find something useful about F2 FW boards and NS sails. Thank you in advance. |

The tuning news is: use the plates! This is especially true if you are a big guy, but they are good for everyone. You will have to test a bit on your own to decide how many spacers to use, in what conditions. Plates all the way down promotes earlier and longer planning, and at least some plates are good in very rough conditions as well. No plates may be good in smooth water, and very steady strong winds (where does that happen?) Also, keep the mast step behind midway. |

Thank you!!! What footstrap positions and boom height works the best? |
RickR
May 17th, 2007 - 7:51 AM |
The suggested footstrap locations are good, and a very high boom. Check the pics and you will see everyone using a high boom location. |

Thank you. Tested the board with r17S +8 and r19-S +6. Wind 10-17kts, 11sqm NS Warp06. With r19 board holds direction better, r17 tries to spinout in the holes, but very good acceleration downwind, nose swings up-down more than on r19. Tight footsraps makes legs tired very fast. Looser straps allows feet to fit the deck very nice. Board is very comfortable. Loose front straps increases light wind pumping efctiveness. Competitions will be the next weekend. Is it worth to change rake angle of r17S from +8 to +6? |

The R17 is faster than R19, but it does spin out if pushed too hard. Try to not "stand on the fin" soo much, especially in lulls. You have to ride the board almost more like a waveboard: let the fin power up, rail the board up and ride upwind, then back off, then repeat. This will get you upwind more effectively with the "soft" fins. |

This weekend had 12 races, totally 180km according GPS. Very gusty and very shifty winds. All plates mounted and r19s- +6 was better for me than r17s +8 because ride was more stable, r19 reacted to every shift very smooth, without speed decrease, board flies over the chop. On r17 chop kicks the board stronger, hard to concentrate. Could it be because of angle of r17 is +8? |

This weekend r19 scanged to r17s +8 again. sail 11.0., downhaul - wrinkle doesn't reach "MAX" VTS sticker by 5 cm. plates all down. wind aprox 14 kts upwind board accelerates quikly, but when good speed is reached, it doesn't accelerates in the gusts (16-18kts). feels like board becames unstable and a lot of drag appears. what is the problem? shouls I remove plates? decrease fin rake? |

remove the plates.... use it only in light winds... |
US -188

r17 + 8 is not good for higth winds , you need rake +4 or less to make your board feel free, use your plates only when use 12 meters sail or bigger but you need to use the plates if it is a lot of waves to keep your board from fly upwind . so : 1-Flat water windy = no plates 2-Flat water ligth wind = plates ( 3 different positions , depend on your trim , but use it will help you to plane early and keep on planing) 3- higth waves and windy = plates ( keep your board from fly.) This board need a wider fin R 17 is to narro in the base try = kashy ( if you can) or ( selet O5 wide 70 soft , really good for up wind but difficult for downwind) I hope this help

US-188, what about the R19??? I use the R19 70cm S +8... I think it isn't the best fin... should I change it? or should I use it for light winds? |

Raced yesterday against US 188 and here were settings and results: wind was 10-12, both on 11.0. US 188 on Kashy fin and North Warp 11.0, no plates. US 089 on D R19 +8 S--, TR 3 11.0 Full plates US 188 consistently faster speed, and able to climb higher upwind over the course of upwind legs, better acceleration also. Anyone want to buy a D r19? |

Had two very different days. Saturday. 8-10 kts, no plates 11.0 Warp06, R19 S- +6. Conditions were very light and no real match racing against SB161 12.0 Vapor happened. I was trying board for the first time without plates. At this moment I'm sure that plates doesn't help to start planing earlier. I tried to pump and push with rear leg with foot placed between pipe hole and chicken strap. No pressure on front leg. Board starts planing twice faster than it was earlier. That pumping with rear foot technique was told to me by freestyler. Not tested in competition. Sunaday. 12-18kts. 11.0 warp, no plates,R19S- +6, mastfoot at recomended position, chop about 1m (3.3 ft) high. I was flying every 5th wave at first. Angle upwind and speed were not good. Board was very stable downwind 12-16kts with R17S +8, no plates, mastfoot 1-1.5cm (1/2inch)forward from recomended position. Angle and speed much better, almost no flying. In 100-200m fields with smooth waves board increases speed very fast and gains visible lead. R17 is more sensitive and more nervous downwind. Had several spinouts after too much downwind surfing on wave and some fin lifts on acceleration in chop. Fin behaves very stable at high speed. Not tested in competitions. Week ago the same fins were tested in competition with plates, flat water, 12-18kts. R19 was better in angle and results. I think that plates cut the speed and R17 was not able to show its performance:) |

I agree that plates cut the top end speed but gives you more control ... ( I think ) |
