Message:   With the climb on the bike out of Turriff still fresh in my mind, I arrived at the new Mountain Biking complex at Strathmashie, just south of Laggan. Just the thing to improve my chances of beating snail pace at the start of the Turriff cycle route!

For off season training, and a lot of exhilirating downhill, try the red run. It is a 6.5 km cross country route (according to the 12 pupils I had with me - downhillers to a man, therefore a little disappointed). If you do fit into the same category as the boys, the black route is for you - very technical, and requiring all round supsension please.

Of course, to get to the top of either run, you have to do a bit of forestry track climbing - great for warming up. (The boys paid £2 a time each to get up to the top in the landrover!)

The young couple who run the bike hire and cafe business are very helpful, and the food hits the spot. The bikes have front suspension, and disc brakes. Well worth a visit if you are over nearer Fort William in the Summer.

Laggan Wolftrax Trails is the name of the place, check it out on the website - it is a Forestry Commission site.
