CREGGAN HISTORY SOCIETY - MESSAGE BOARD

Welcome to our Message Board

This Message Board has been provided at the suggestion of one of our American web-site visitors who thought it would be a good way for long lost relatives from the Creggan and adjacent areas to make connect with each other.

It is also a useful way for people to ask questions about the history and environment of the South Armagh area, with the prospect of someone being able to provide a helpful response or to comment on any aspect of local history and society.

The content will be monitored and the Society will remove any material which is judged to be inappropriate or not in the spirit of a local history society.

So feel free to leave a message.

Ruddy - Corliss, Upper Creggan, Armagh

My GGGgrandfather was Owen Ruddy, he is shown in the Households list of 1828 as living in Corliss. His wife was Anne Nugent. I do not know their dates of birth or the date of their marriage.

Their children, that I know of were; Thomas (married Mary Mackin), Catherine, Anne (married John Moley), Patrick (married Ann Begley) & my GGgrandfather Neal (married Mary Cafferey). I have dates of their marriages & other details of children etc.

Neal & Mary had Thomas, Mary (married Michael Mallon) & my Ggrandfather Patrick. Neal looks like he was listed as a householder in the 1901 census and as a native Irish speaker.

Patrick came over to Gateshead, Durham. I have his marriage certificate dated 1880, he married Elizabeth McCormick, whose parents lived in Gateshead but were born in Ireland. They moved to Blaydon, Durham.

There were all Roman Catholics. This continued through the line to me.

My questions are;

Living in Corliss is there a Roman Catholic Church where they may still be Headstones that may give me more information?

Are there any Church records locally that may help me find out more details for Owen Ruddy?

Are there any living ancestors who may have any information that may help or who may need any information that I have?

Thank you for any help in advance.

Michael Ruddy
